Dealing With Stress

Sorry for the larger gap of posts but as the title kind of states I have been extremely stressed lately.  This has been an extremely busy week before leaving for school.  My mom fell and broke her ankle resulting in her having to have surgery.  She was supposed to babysit her grand daughter/ my niece for 2 days but couldn't so I had to.  Those were two of the craziest and most tiring days ever.  I've heard of "the terrible twos" but I think we need a "obnoxious ones" or something of comparable standard.

Apart from my crazy stressful week I wanted to share some of my tips for how to handle stressful situations.  I have always been the type of person to simply go with the flow and never worry all that much.  Because of this, stress doesn't effect me too much until it gets to a point where I just break down because the stress is just TOO much.  I also thought this would be great for students who get stressed quite frequently  (trust me I know, been there, done that!!)  Here's what I do:

1.  STOP.  While it may be extremely difficult and seem like the last thing you want to it will ultimately be the best thing for you.  Your body just needs a little bit of relaxation time.  Whatever that be for you, listening to music, grab a bit to eat, take a it!  I promise you this little bit of down time will feel sooo good!

2.  BREATHE.  Take a moment to step back and breathe.  This is very similar to the relax one above but if you simply cannot take the time to stop just take a few minutes to listen to a calming song and just breathe.  I used to think it was crazy when I would hear people say shit like "Breathe in good, exhale bad," but it actually kind of works.  I think the trick behind it is just that it takes your mind off of whatever was stressing you out.

3. LOOK at your situation like you are a complete stranger.  Step back and analyze the scenario.  See if you get more perspective and it will help you destress.  Also, tell a friend what is happening and vent out your problems...that always helps me!!

4.  ASSESS what is happening and how you can fix it.  Also similar to number 4 more this time instead of just being aware of what is wrong now try to see what caused you to become this stressed and maybe in the future how to avoid these situations (for ex. saying no).

5.  BE more prepared for next time.  Next time when you even start to feel a little stressed out nip it in the butt.  Start these techniques sooner rather than later so that you don't get to such a bad point.

I wish you all the best and try to stay stress free!  What are some of your helpful destressing tips?

My Week in Pictures {8/17/13}

This last week I went on a vacation with my family.  It was our last big family thing before I go off to college in two weeks.  We went to our lake house and here are some pictures of the wonderful week!

The street leading up to our house!

I think I'm obsessed with taking pictures of sunsets.  They just are always sooo pretty!

A delicious state with a garlic pesto sauce!

Yet another sunset!!

View of the harbor.  I love taking pictures of sailboats and rocks and the water and stuff like that.  I think the photos always turn out looking really cool.

The Basic T

When it comes to basic clothing items I don't like to overspend.  These are items that you wear quite frequently and often have to repurchase.  This includes things like tank tops and basic t-shirts.  I know there are tons of people out there that love to spend more money on these items because it is something that you do wear so often so you spend more for better quality.  While I do see where they are coming from I just hate to spend so much money on items I know will get sweaty quickly and I will have to repurchase.

My all time favorite store to buy these basic Ts is as Target.  I am in love with their tank tops specifically.  They are the completely smooth ones, not the ribbed ones.  They fit like a glove and are really breathable.  I also think for being Target they are made very well.  Along those same lines I love the simple v necks that they have as well.  You can get them in so many different colors and different styles.  They have ones that fit really tight and then they have looser ones too.

I highly recommend checking out Target for your everyday basic tops, they are my favorites!

So I have recently become obsessed with tattoos.  I cannot stop looking at pictures of different peoples tattoos, watching YouTube videos of people explaining their tattoos, and so much more.  I even created a Pinterest board of tattoos I am obsessed with.  Now I don't have any tattoos but I REALLY want one.  The one thing that is stopping me is that my parents hate tattoos with a burning passion.  Their are two that I want: a roman numeral and a written word.  I don't want to go into too much detail about why I want each one but maybe if I end up getting them one day I will share.  Any ways, I am known to be the "good" girl so I'm not quite sure I could go against my parents and get a tattoo without them knowing.  But I want these sooo bad that I might just have to make an exception.

Dainty tattoos...aaaahh perfection!  Here are my top three location ideas for each tattoo:

Do any of you have any tattoos?  If so where are they and did they hurt?

Best Jeans Ever

I've have always struggled with finding the perfect pair of jeans.  I think most people have too.  Its just one of those clothing items that is so hard to find because everyone's body shape is different.  They fit so tightly to your body that finding the perfect pair is a must.  I think I have settled with so many different pairs of jeans over the years but have never been truly happy.

Back in my lanky pre-teen years when all I could fit into were slims and 00's it was practically impossible to find a jean that I could fit into that my mom didn't have to put tucks into.  Then I hit my growth spurt.  Still being a small size they expect you to be shorter when you are a size 0.  I'm afraid that I didn't fit that bill.  Having to resort to Lucky Brand jeans at the age of 13 (no one should spend that kind of money on jeans at such a young age!) I made do.  Eventually my size went up so I could get away with a little longer length of jean.

Enter when I quit playing volleyball, a sport a played for almost 6 years hardcore.  I was no longer the super skinny toned chica anymore but began filling out.  While jeans still fit me in the legs my waist became the tricky area now.  One size was to big but the smaller size was too tight (giving me a muffin top which I definitely shouldn't have.)  I ended up just suffering wearing jeans to small simply because they fit everywhere else.

I couldn't imagine spending $200 on a pair of jeans until I tried on a certain pair.  My sister always talked about how ah-mazing J Brand jeans are, saying the stretch with your body and feel nice and tight but not too tight on.  I tried on a few pairs but still had the same problem, in between sizes.  Until I accidentally tried on a pair of high rise jeans.  Now I have two pairs of high waisted shorts which I am in love with.  They hide my stomach imperfections perfectly.  Why I never thought of trying on a pair of high waisted jeans I have no idea.  Needless to say this was the best mistake of my life!  I finally found a pair of jeans where it was okay for the waist to be a bit tight because it hides everything.  No slight muffin top but a nice smooth look.  If you don't want the high waisted look just pull your shirt over it, and if you do, you have it.  I am now obsessed with these jeans and want them in more shades.  I highly recommend trying the high waisted J Brand jeans (23110 Maria) or high waisted jeans from any brand if you suffer from being in between sizes or have muffin top issues!  These jeans are unbelievable comfy and have literally changed my life!

Sorry I have been MIA recently but I was at a music festival all weekend.  Hope you all have been enjoying these past few days as well.  Anyways, I wanted to share some few gift ideas with all of you.

Today I am having all of my friends over and I am giving them all a collage of a bunch of pictures of all of us.  Its something that can easily be hung in a dorm room and will remind you of all the good memories we all had together.  The one I made just in a simple rectangle but some other people I know make them in monograms (and who doesn't love a great monogram!) or the letters of the school.  For a friend of mine who was moving a way I made her a booklet of collages.  Whatever it may be I think collages are great gift for any occasion.  You can either have them made for you or you can do it yourself.  I know Walgreens makes some amazing picture products but here are a few sites that I really like for making your own collages: piZap and PicMonkey.  Also, just type into Google "collage maker/creator/etc." and I guarantee you will find something that you like!

Another gift along those same lines is just a simple picture and frame.  Not many people share pictures any more because you can just as easily see them on Facebook or what not.  But I love getting an elegant picture frame with a picture for birthdays or holidays.  If you don't want get an actual picture, they do make digital picture frames which plays a slideshow of pictures that you have on an SD card.  Either way you chose to do this gift I highly recommend some sort of picture frame.

July 2013 Favorites

These are some of the things that I have been loving this month.  Everything from fashion to beauty and random.  Hope you enjoy and please tell me some of your faves!

1.  Herbal Essences Hello Hydration Shampoo and Conditioner:  This has got to be my favorite shampoo and conditioners.  I always seem to go back to it time and time again.  I think it is the only shampoo and condition that I have ever actually repurchased.  That says a lot about me because I love trying new products.  This combo adds the perfect amount of moisture to to be hair and keeps it nice and silky.  I don't have particularly dry hair I just like to keep it extra hydrated and soft and this line is perfect for that!

2.  Bath & Body Works Sun Ripened Raspberry Body Cream:  This is my favorite lotion to apply after shaving.  Right after you shave your skin gets very dry because you just took off a layer of skin making it very raw and tender.  It is important to thoroughly hydrate your skin afterwards and I think this product does a great job of that!  It leaves your skin feeling very soft and the scent lingers which I like.

3.  Garnier Fructis Sleek and Smooth:  I have been using this after I shower as a smoothing product.  In the summer my hair tends to get slightly frizzy because of the humidity.  This product works great at taming that frizz and making your hair look soft and shiny and feel nice and silky.

4.  Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder:  Perfect powder to combat oiliness in the summer time.  I have been applying this after some concealer and it gives the perfect amount of coverage and feels light on your skin.  I highly recommend this product for those of you with oily skin, this is a life savor.

5.  Revlon Lip Butter in Juicy Papaya:  This is the most perfect coral color for the summer time!  I wear it with practically everything and it has become one of my go to lip products this July/summer as a whole.  The balm like consistency makes it very easy to just throw on out of a beach bag and still feel great on your lips and looks even better.

6.  Garnier Fructis Moisture Renew Refeshing Gel-Cream:  This lightweight night moisturizer is perfect for the summer.  It feels nice and cool and refreshing after a long hot day yet is still very moisturizing.  Whether you are getting out of the sun or just want a little pick me up this moisturizer is great.  While it feel light on the skin it does really hydrate your skin which is something you shouldn't forget to do even in the summer time.

7.  Marc Jacobs Perfume in Daisy Eau so Fresh:  Honestly this is the perfect summer fragrance.  I do not know how to describe this except literally being summer in a scent.  Light and airy and filled with sunshiney goodness this is an amazing perfume.  Please go smell it for yourself!
