Winter Fashion {January 2014}

So for the past 19 years of my life my winters have been frigid cold.  So bundling up is kind of an essential considering you have to do it for almost half the year!  Over the course of my many winters I have gathered some winter fashion essentials and favorites.

1. Thick (and I mean THICK) winter sweaters:  Honestly nothing is better the curling up with an oversized thick winter sweater and a cup of hot chocolate!

2. Knit hats:  Sometimes I find these can be a bit itchy on the scalp so I look for ones that are lined with fleece.  They are less itchy and are more ward!  My favorite colors are just white and grey because they go with everything.  However, I have many different styles of these colors, ones with pom poms on the top, ones with long tassles, etc.  Make yourself look like a little snow bunny.

3.  Infinity scarves:  Extra big and super thick.  Like actually the bigger the better.  I love the look of super oversized scarves.  I'm quite sure why, because they are kind of obnoxious but I love it.  They also help keep you insanely warm.  Look for ones that are tighter knit, they are warmer!

4.  Bean boots:  Literally enough said right there.  I have the thinsulate ones (here) but they are currently sold out.  I like these because they provide a little bit more warmth.  I would recommend these over the normal ones because they are a tad bit more comfy and a bit warmer.  They do have shearling lined ones but I just couldn't justify the increase price.  These boots go with everything and I cannot get enough.  I may or may not wear them every day...

5.  Leggings:  There isn't something I hate more than getting out of bed and having to put a pair of super tight and restricting jeans on in the winter.  I just want to be bundled up and comfy every single day!  Enter the best invention ever: leggings!!  In the winter I would recommend buying fleece lined or super thick ones because they will keep you so much warmer than normal pairs.  However, you do you (I don't judge.)  I would recommend investing because leggings are something that will last you like forever.  Lululemons leggings and these fleece leggings from Anthropologie are my faves.

6. HEAVY Winter jacket:  You need something to help you out in the frigid weather.  Something to protect your delicate skin from the negative temps.  A heavy winter jacket is a must get.  The style you get is completely up to you.  Literally there are thousands of different styles out there.  You can get puffy Michelin Man style that goes down to your knees, you get ones with a furry hood, or opt for a ski jacket style.  Whatever you decide you really can't go wrong, just make sure it keeps you warm!

7.  Gloves and mittens oh my:  This one, very similar to the jacket, many styles many colors just go.  I really like the gloves with the tech tips so that you don't have to take your gloves off to use your phone, but I wouldn't call these the warmest gloves ever.  Mitten that fold over to let your finger tips out are actually pretty handy as well.  These can be super warm too.  Explore all your alternatives and I'm sure you'll find something that suits your needs.

I wish you all luck in the fa-fa-FAREEZING temperatures we have been having as of late.  Like actually what is up with this weather.  It's snowing in Florida and people in the midwest have had school off the past few days do to severe wind chill.  I don't understand this weather.  I actually really don't like it and regret not going to school in the west every single day.  Except not really, because I love where I am!!

A New Semester = A New You

Starting out a new semester I am always really excited.  New things to organize and color code, new notebooks to buy, and you just get a fresh new slate.  The start of a semester is always so much fun because you meet new people in all your classes and you still don't have too much work (can I hear an Amen for Syllabus Week!?)  But with this first week and the "clean slate feel" of a new semester also come the harsh realizations:  I need to work harder than I did last semester;  I need to meet with my teachers more; I can't procrastinate any more; Should I deactivate my Netflix account?  These questions plague you as you desire to have an even better second semester with everything you learned from the first.

The first few weeks are key to having a good semester.  Start your routine early so that you get in the habit of doing your work at certain times and learn the basics of your schedule.  From there you know what work must be done at night and what you can get done during the day.  Doing those first few assignments (while painful) will help you get back in the swing of things.  Do them early so you start of the semester ahead.  This will help for when teachers start piling on work and you get overwhelmed.  Another helpful hint is to do the work the day it is assigned not the day before its do.  For example, do the work for your MWF classes on Monday or Wednesday not Tuesday or Thursday.  That way you stay ahead and if you ever need to postpone something you can!

Just getting organized and being on top of your game at the beginning of the semester can make all the difference.  I have had tons of classes where by just doing some of the easy homework assignments or things the first few weeks helped me when it came time to testing (which is not my forte).  I promise that the more effort you put in in the beginning the better the middle and ends will be.  I know it seems counter productive but its all about the routine of things.  I think that saying is that doing something 21 times forms a habit.  That's 3 weeks.  So do something that you wish you had done first semester every day for the first three weeks of second semester and it becomes habit!!

Have a wonderful second semester lovlies!

Welcome to the New Year!

Hope everyone had a fantastic break!!  I hope your holidays were filled with fun times with friends and family and that your laid on the couch just as much as went out.  I hope you had an adorable New Years kiss and danced your butt off.  And now we move on to the year of twenty fourteen.  I know this is super cliche but I actually cannot believe it.  Like no freaking way.  Our world was supposed to end over a year ago and now its already 2014.  I am not really quite sure where time goes.

This year was full of memories.  So many milestones were accomplished this year: graduating high school, starting college, leaving home, etc.  Its crazy to think that a year ago I was freaking out over what school I was going to go to and where I was going to spend the next four years, and how to have an amazing second semester senior year.  Graduating with friends and having a memorable summer all came to a quick end when it was time to pack everything up and move to a completely new place.  And now my first semester of college is already over and I literally don't know what to do with myself.

How is possible that four months can go by that quickly?  I remember being so scared on the plane ride and freaking out on the drive to my dorm that I wasn't going to make new friends and I was going to hate it.  Oh how wrong I was... but still, that was four months ago.  I guess I have learned that in every day you have to do something memorable.  There has to be something exciting about each individual day otherwise they all blend together and before you know it your graduating and on to the real world.  So I guess my new year resolution would be to make every day count and really enjoy the moments that you have.  I know that's a very typical resolution but I truly mean it.  Now lets just hope I can stick to it because I suck and remember and maintaining my resolutions.

Wishing you all the best in your upcoming year and all the milestones that you too will encounter.  Enjoy every day and embrace what life gives you.  It goes by way too fast so make every moment matter!!

With love, xoxo
